Gerald McBoing Boing Adventures DVD Review:

The cartoon Gerald McBoing Boing was taken from an Academy Award winning motion picture by Dr. Seuss, turned into books, and now turned into a cartoon for children as well. Gerald doesn’t talk. Ever since he was a baby he makes noises instead of saying words, which got him into trouble until one day he found a purpose for his ability. Each episode of the cartoon takes Gerald on an adventure where his abilities are needed. At times it is a hindrance as well, making it nearly impossible for him to interact with his parents. With each noise he hears, he learns how to mimic it. Gerald is put into stories each episode as well, and in these collections of episodes the stories take Gerald on adventures, starting with a pirate tale of gum thieving scoundrels.

Also included in each episode are fun little “Guess the Sound” bits in between. It is a fun way for younger kids to learn about sounds, just like Gerald does. He is a hero who cannot express him through words, and a likely character that younger children will relate to and enjoy. Each episode has all sorts of adventure stories, family stories, and sound recognition for kids to learn.

The episodes included in Gerald McBoing Boing Adventures begin with Cuckoos and Pirates where Gerald battles Scritchy McBeard, who returns on the fourth episode, Burp, Crybaby Blues and the Return of Scritchy McBeard. Other episodes have Gerald and his friends meeting mummies, aliens, monsters and squids. They go into outer space, under the sea and are even superheroes. The special feature on the disc is an interactive sound check for kids to play with.
