I Dream Of Jeannie Season 5 DVD Review:

I Dream of Jeanie is an iconic television series that originally aired between the years 1965 to 1970. In its five year run, the series created 139 half hour episodes. The television series starred Barbara Eden (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Chatanooga Choo Choo) as Jeannie and Larry Hagman as her astronaut master, Tony Nelson.

I Dream of Jeanie was created for NBC by Screen Gems in response to the hugely successful Bewitched series on rival network ABC. Bewitched was also produced by Screen Gems.

The series found moderate success on NBC but found enormous success over the last 35 plus years in syndication. The series even garnered some of the highest ratings on television during the 1970s.

The fifth and final season finds Jeannie and Tony in a variety of hilarious messes. In the fifth season, Jeannie leaves Tony to become a queen in a foreign country after it becomes obvious that Tony will not marry her. After she is gone, Tony soon realizes that he in fact cannot live without Jeannie and goes after her. He announces their engagement to the NASA people, which surprises even Jeannie. The fifth season revolves around their wedding as they deal with all of the logistics of getting married, like Jeannie needing a blood donor for the blood test since genies have green blood. The season also includes the wedding between the duo The pair also deals with the hiccups occasionally presented by the combination of lives, like when Tony puts Jeannie on a budget and when she blinks herself into Tony’s isolation chamber after he returns from the moon.

I Dream of Jeannie is one of the most famous and popular television series to come out of the 1960s. The series has reached both iconic and cult classic status and can still be seen some 40 years after it originally aired. Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman are still household names as they are remembered for being two of the most well known characters from the incredibly prolific height of television sit coms of the 1960s.

The DVD release of the fifth and final season of I Dream of Jeanie includes all 26 original episodes on four discs. Also included on the release are two minisodes to promote other popular television shows now available on DVD, Rogues and Riches for the series Fantasy Island, and Junior Executive for Bewitched. The 26 episodes for I Dream of Jeanie are presented in full frame and feature a stereo soundtrack.
