There were 2,095 billionaires on the list when it was finalized on March 18: 58 fewer billionaires than last year and 226 fewer than at the beginning of the month. The reason is the linking of the wealth of these people with the stock market value of their investments or the companies they own.
According to Forbes USA and Advice Strategic Consultants, the 2,095 billionaires are “worth” 8 trillion dollars, which is equivalent to eight times the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Spain. Since much of the wealth of billionaires is deposited in shares of their companies, net worth fluctuates from day to day, depending on the evolution of the stock markets.
The country with the most billionaires in the United States, with 614, followed by China (which includes Hong Kong and Macao, two of the richest places on the planet) with 456 billionaires.

Bezos founded the e-commerce giant Amazon in 1994 and remains the company’s CEO.

Warren Buffett (United States), Berkshire Hathaway
Warren Buffett, 89, was “worth” $67.5 billion on March 18. Buffett is one of the most successful investors of all time. He runs Berkshire Hathaway, which owns more than 60 large companies. Buffett was previously the third-richest person in the world, before Bernard Arnault took his place this year, in 2020.
Larry Ellison (United States), Oracle
Larry Ellison, 75, was “worth” $59 billion in March. In 1977, he founded Oracle, a “zampa-zampa” of software and hardware companies: Peoplesoft, Siebel Systems, Hyperion Solutions, BEA Systems, Sun Microsystems… and, more recently, Bluekai, a cloud-based big data company, and Zenedge, a startup specialized in digital security.
